Most car owners have no idea how many kilometres they drive each month, let alone how their driving patterns affect costs. Moticar’s Trip feature changes that by automatically recording every journey your vehicle makes.
With motibuddie plugged in, trip logging happens silently in the background. When you start your engine, Moticar begins tracking. When you turn off the ignition, it saves the trip with distance, duration, route, and a driving behaviour score. You never need to open the app.
Each trip card shows the start and end location, total distance, travel time, and — with motibuddie data — fuel consumed, average speed, and driving behaviour metrics covering acceleration, braking, and cornering. Over time, this creates a complete travel diary that helps you understand how your car is being used.
For users without motibuddie, trips can be logged manually with start point, end point, and estimated distance. While less detailed, this still builds a mileage record that feeds into maintenance reminders and cost calculations.
Trip data is especially valuable for fleet operators and owners who share vehicles. Fleet managers can see where each vehicle goes, how far it travels, and whether drivers are using the vehicles efficiently. Owners who share a car with family members or employees can verify actual usage with real route data rather than estimates.
All trip data is stored securely and privately. Moticar does not share location data with third parties.
Insights are generated by analysing your driving data, expense history, vehicle diagnostics, and maintenance patterns. The more data Moticar has, the more accurate and personalised the recommendations become.
Some insights (like fuel efficiency trends and driving behaviour analysis) require the OBD2 device. Basic expense-based insights work with manual data entry alone.
Insights refresh weekly, with real-time alerts for significant changes like a sudden spike in fuel consumption or a new diagnostic fault code.
Yes. Moticar anonymously benchmarks your vehicle costs against other users with similar cars in your region, so you can see if you’re overpaying.
